China InnoTour for Indian Young Scientists Was Successfully Held

In order to actively integrate and serve the "Belt and Road" construction and promote the people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between young scientists from China and South Asian countries, and further, to strengthen bilateral cooperation between China and India in the field of technology transfer and innovation cooperation, an 8-day trip China InnoTour for Indian Young Scientists was held in Kunming and Shanghai from 22nd to 29th September, 2019. The event was hosted by the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the Chinese Embassy in India and the Department of Science and Technology of Yunnan Province. It organized by the Yunnan Academy of Scientific and Technical Information, the China-South Asia Technology Transfer Center and the Shanghai Science and Technology Exchange Center (Green Technology Bank Administration Center). 20 PhD young scientists from Indian Institute of Technology, University of Kashmir, Punjab University, University of Delhi, Salim Ali Center for Ornithology and Natural History, Dayalbagh Educational Institute Agra, CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute, CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute and other Indian research organization have participated in this event.

20 Indian young scientists arrived in Kunming on 22nd September, 2019

On the morning of 23rd September, inauguration of China InnoTour for Indian Young Scientists and Bilateral Seminar was held in Kunming. Mr. Ma Minxiang, Deputy Director-general of the China-South Asia Technology Transfer Center and the China-ASEAN Innovation Center, and Director-general of the Yunnan Academy of Scientific and Technical Information moderated over the launching ceremony. Mr. He Wei, Director-general of the first Division of Cooperation of the Department of Science and Technology of Yunnan Province, Dr. Hu Jinming, Director-general of the Department of Science and Technology of Yunnan University and Dr. Chandra Shekhar Sharma, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (Hyderabad) delivered speech on behalf of the organizers, Chinese and Indian young scientists respectively. In Dr. Sharma’s speech, he stated that the event will promote exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and Indian scientists, and jointly explore cooperation opportunities and promote scientific and technological innovation cooperation between China and India. 

At the exchange meeting, Indian young scientists and young scientists from Yunnan University, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yunnan Observatory of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Yunnan Crystal Energy Technology Co., Ltd. conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions, and raised the need for cooperation and enhanced understanding between the two sides. From 23rd to 24th September, Indian young scientists visited Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST), Yunnan University, and Kunming Institute of Botany (KIB), Chinese Academy of Sciences in Kunming.

On the afternoon of 23rd September, the 20 Indian young scientists visited Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST). Dr. Wang Nengmin, assistant to the President of KUST, met with Indian scholars. Representatives from the Foreign Office of university, the Academy of Science and Technology, the Institute for Innovation and Development, the Academy of Bio-science, the Medical College, the School of Materials, the School of Environmental Engineering, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Electric Power, and the School of Science attended the meeting. Wang Nengmin welcomed this visit and hoped that scientists from both sides, especially young scientists, would strengthen exchanges, and establish friendships, and actively carry out friendly cooperation for the development of the two sides and make a contribution to China and India win-win cooperation. Dr. Chandra Shekhar Sharma said that he is very pleased to visit Kunming University of Science and Technology. The discipline setting of Kunming University of Science and Technology is highly consistent with the research areas of the delegation members. He hoped that through this visit he can connect with experts and scholars in relevant fields of the school and actively carry out cooperation and exchanges. After the meeting, scientists from both sides had a one-to-one exchange and established contacts.

Indian young scientists visited Yunnan University on the morning of 24th September.They conducted in-depth discussions and proposed cooperation intentions with 14 experts and scholars from New Energy Storage Institute, School of Materials, School of Life Sciences, School of Resources, Environment and Earth Sciences, School of Information, School of Physics and Astronomy, Natural Resources Medicinal Chemistry key laboratories of Ministry of Education of Yunnan University. This visit enhanced the understanding of young scientists from both sides, and found common entry points of several projects and laid a good foundation for China-India science and technology cooperation in the next step.

Indian young scientists visited the Kunming Institute of Botany (KIB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on the afternoon of 24th September. Zhao Qinshi, Deputy Director-general of the State Key Laboratory of Phytochemistry and Plant Resources in the West China, Wu Jianqiang, Deputy Director-general of the Key Laboratory of Economic Plants and Biotechnology, KIB attended the discussion. The meeting was chaired by Zhu Weidong, Director-general of the Science and Technology Cooperation Division. At the meeting, the basic introduction of the KIB was introduced to visitors. Zhao Qinshi and Wu Jianqiang introduced the research achievements of KIB in the field of phytochemistry and biotechnology and expressed their cooperation intentions with Indian scientists. After the discussion, the Indian delegation visited the State Key Laboratory of Phytochemistry and Plant Resources in the West China, the Key Laboratory of Economic Plants and Biotechnology KIB, and the Kunming Botanical Garden.

From 26th to 29th September, Indian young scientists visited Tongji University, Fudan University, Zhangjiang Science and Technology Park, Shanghai Pudong New Area in Shanghai, and participated in the Green Technology Bank Summit Forum: 2019 Global Science and Technology Innovation Conference and other activities.

Indian young scientists visited Tongji University on the morning of 26th September. The Foreign Affairs Office of Tongji University and the International Division of Shanghai Science and Technology Exchange Center organized the Tongji University-Indian Young Scientists Seminar. Scientists from School of Environment, School of Automotive, School of Physics, School of Materials of Tongji University and Indian young scientists participated in the seminar. Scientists from both sides conducted group exchanges, and visited related laboratories, and discussed the next step of cooperation.

Indian young scientists visited Fudan University on the afternoon of 26th September. The International Cooperation Office of the Institute of Science and Technology of Fudan University organized a Fudan University-Indian Young Scientists Seminar. Scientists from the Department of Chemistry, School of Life Sciences, and State Key Laboratory of Polymer Molecular Engineering of Fudan University attended the seminar. Scientists from both sides conducted group communication, and visited the State Key Laboratory of Molecular Engineering of Polymers.

The Shanghai Science and Technology Exchange Center (Green Technology Bank Management Center) organized a China-India young scientist’s seminar on the morning of 27th September. Liu Guangshun, Deputy Director-general of Shanghai Science and Technology Exchange Center, Ma Minxiang, Deputy Director-general of China-South Asia Technology Transfer Center, and Director-general of the Yunnan Academy of Scientific and Technical Information, Assistant Dean of the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering of Shanghai Jiaotong University, scientists from Shanghai Center for Plant Stress Biology CAS, Science and Technology Development Division of the Shanghai Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Human Genome Research Center, Shanghai Normal University attended the seminar. At the symposium, Liu Guangshun, Ma Minxiang and Dr. Chandra Shekhar Sharma made speeches respectively. In Liu Guangshun’s speech, he said that Shanghai as one of the most concentrated areas of China's scientific and technological innovation resources, has first-class universities and scientific research institutions. The Shanghai Science and Technology Exchange Center is willing to offer a full range of services to promote cooperation between both sides. On behalf of the Indian young scientists, Dr. Chandra Shekhar Sharma expressed appreciation to the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the Chinese Embassy in India, the Science and Technology Department of Yunnan Province, the Yunnan Academy of Scientific and Technical Information, and the Shanghai Science and Technology Exchange Center for the support and thoughtful arrangements. He believed that this event will promote exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and Indian scientists and young scientists from both sides can establish channels for joint research in the fields of agriculture and biotechnology, information technology, environmental protection and climate change. Ma Minxiang said that this event is not only a journey of innovation and cooperation, but also a journey of cultural exchanges. Through the exchanges and face-to-face contacts between the two sides, it can deepen the mutual understanding and friendship between Chinese and Indian scientists. It is hoped that Chinese and Indian young scientists will make good use of this cooperation platform to achieve pragmatic cooperation.

4 experts from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai Center for Plant Stress Biology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Academy of Sciences and Shanghai Normal University made four special reports. Young scientists from both sides conducted in-depth discussions and reached a consensus that use "China InnoTour for Indian Young Scientists" as a starting point to establish a long-term and stable cooperation and exchange mechanism between Chinese and Indian young scientists.

China InnoTour for Indian Young Scientists allowed Indian young scientists to intuitively feel the significant achievements of China's innovation and development and built a platform for cooperation between Chinese and Indian scientists. This event also deepened mutual understanding and trust between scientists from both sides and laid the foundation for China-India science and technology innovation cooperation. The event was a complete success.
